Banda: Asal Jalur Rempah Dunia Yang Terlupakan !!!!

(FMawero)

The archipelago is the largest group of islands that have long been the target of the whole world because of its wealth and natural beauty. One of them is Banda Island, which is a place that produces spices that are most sought after by Europeans.

Banda is the name of an island in the Banda Islands, which is located in the province of Maluku. Apart from Banda Island, the islands also contain Lontar Island, Gunungapi Island, Banda Besar Island, Banda Neira Island, Hatta Island, Ay Island, Rhun Island, and Pisang Island.

Before Europeans entered Banda, Arab and Chinese traders first knew of the existence of these spices. Chinese traders brought spices and hid them under silk. Arab traders brought spices and hid behind hoaxes about head-hunting cannibals.

News of the Nutmeg producing areas spread to all corners of the country and Western nations, started to arrive, and succeeded in dominating the Nutmeg trade. From historical ink, Banda became a silent witness to the place of the first slavery in the archipelago and mass slaughter. However, it was in these islands that the miniature of Indonesia's cultural diversity was born.

Spices from Maluku were well known before the VII century, said a researcher from Harvard University, Boston, United States, Bryan Averbuch. "Spices, especially cloves and nutmeg from Maluku were well known in the Middle East, long before the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. We can find this in several literatures," he said.

Meanwhile, Maluku History and Anthropology Researcher, Florence Sahusilawane, said Maluku spices had been well known since Roman times. Cloves and nutmeg from the area were brought by Chinese traders via the silk road.

Long before that, if we study the history of the Spice Path, we will learn that cloves were used as one of the ingredients, to preserve mummies in Ancient Egypt. While nutmeg has been known by the Greeks and Romans since 24 BC.

The notes of the Franciscan monks – copied and quoted by van Frassen – even mention cloves as one of the main preservatives for the mummies of the Pharaohs, the rulers of Ancient Egypt. Some historians and archaeologists state that artifacts of Maluku spices have even been found in the Mesopotamian Valley (present-day Iraq and its surroundings) in 3,000 BC. (see, among others: Brierly, 1994).

Unfortunately, the Bandanese generation, which is multi-cultural, is now starting to forget a little about the Historical Records of the "Spice Route" inherited from hundreds of years of their ancestors, namely nutmeg, clove and mace, namely the most valuable commodities than gold in their time.
